I may not always be happy, but I can have Christian joy.
What makes you happy, or did you just think it would? Maybe a relationship, a house, a car, finances, health, etc.
Here is a list of some things that may make you happy right now!
—You are alive, so take some breaths and feel the air in your lungs (something I’m practicing with the pandemic going around).
—Spend time with family & friends.
—Get some good sleep.
—Help someone else.
—Smile and give or get a hug (oops watch the distancing).
—Be thankful for the small things in your life.
—Listen to music.
—Get moving. Exercise is proven to lift your spirits.
—Find joy in your present moment. Your life may not be perfect or exactly what you want it to be yet, but you can decide to find joy in this present moment. Many people have it harder than you do and they would love to only have your burdens (yes, mother always said you could find somebody in worse circumstances).
What if you can’t do some of the above such as family time, get moving, etc.? Try finding joy in your present moment.
Here are 5 steps for a joyful life:
—Spend time with the Lord more regularly.
—Remember who is Lord over your life. Don’t let your circumstances dictate who you are or how you feel.
—Read your Bible.
—Listen to worship music.
—Watch out for negative thoughts.
John 15:11 (NIV) says “I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.”
So what is there to be joyful about? How about salvation and an eternal home, the ability to read God’s Word, the opportunity for prayer, and the list goes on.
