About this event:
Walking In Christ
Colossians 2:6,7 “As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him… abounding in thanksgiving.”
As a youngster growing up we were a family of seven, mom and dad, four boys and one girl. My dad worked two jobs just to make ends meet or pay the daily bills. My mom also worked as a bus driver when we were a little older and could stay at home by ourselves. They raised us in church, taught us to behave, taught us manners, and really provided for us a loving and caring home. They wanted for us to have a good lifestyle, a good homelife and a great upbringing. They knew from their own experiences how important it was to be around people who were good role models, who supported us in our life’s journey, who helped us become the people that we are today.
There were events that really did cause consternation and uncertainty because of the choices we had made. Mainly, they were concerned who we were hanging out with? They did not want us to hang out with adults who had questionable character nor to have friends that encouraged us to be involved in things they knew (we knew) were not good for us. The real issue for them was simple, who we spend time with matters. Don’t you feel that way about your children and the friends they keep?
A relationship with God through Christ is very much right in line with that philosophy of life. When we take time to pray, read scripture, reflect on our faith, and listen for God’s leading, our lives are shaped with eternal value and eternal promise. A relationship to Christ builds our character. It transforms our hearts to think on the things that honor and glorify God’s name. When we are close to Him and spending time with Him it greatly impacts our relationship to others. Don’t you know that just the opposite is true as well. We become estranged from God when we are not in a close relationship with His only Son. We become distant, careless, easily compromised, and uncommitted. Your relationship to Christ is more important than any relationship you have. Let God give you hope and fulfillment. Let God build your life with character. Let God inspire you because you are spending time with His precious Son.
