God speaks to us in Isaiah 43:19 with these words, Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
Yes, those are nice words to read but at a time like this with a worldwide pandemic what am I supposed to perceive. Furthermore, how long is it going to take for God to make a new way in my wilderness and rivers in my desert? You are asking great questions.
Now, let me ask you a couple of questions. What have you become aware of since the onset of this pandemic? Are there things that you have come to realize since this pandemic began? Do you have a deeper understanding of yourself? How are you looking at things differently now than you ever did before? As you ponder these questions you will discover that new perception is developing and springing forth in you. That is God making a way in your wilderness and rivers in your desert. Sometimes we just need to be reminded to take the time to ponder on His Word and in His Presence to perceive what God is really doing in us.
For you see, God also says in Romans 8:28, and we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His Purpose. This is where the perspective piece becomes really personal. How are you choosing to look to look at things right now? I am not saying that things are not tough, but I am saying that regardless of how tough things are God, “in all things works for the good of those who love Him.”
So, whatever is going on with you during these unusual circumstances look for how God is working for your good. And, you can start by answering this question. Do you love Jesus? Don’t just flippantly say duh, yes, I love Jesus. Take time to dwell on how much you love Him. You will find that as you dwell on how much you love Him you will begin to sense and feel His Presence. As you do you will also see new things springing forth in your heart, mind, body and soul. That is His love making a new way in your wilderness and His love creating a refreshing river in your desert.
The marvelous thing about the life of Jesus is that there is a continual “pouring in new life” in us that allows us to perceive how He is refreshing us and gain a deeper understanding of how He loves us.
Lord Jesus, thank You for always filling us with life that springs forth in new ways in us. During these unusual times may we look for You, (perceive that You are present) so we can discover all the good You are working for us (perspective-seeing through Your eyes). Help us to ask, what do You want me to learn about myself through this experience. In Your Holy Name we pray.
